Learning experience from elementary school

I remember in elementary school having to memorise timetables. The teacher, Mrs Bright would write out each table for example 1 x 2 = 2, 2 x 2 = 4 and then had to memorise the answers. I had to learn this as a foundation for being able to do mathematics and it was hard initially.

Learning experience from highschool

In high school I took biology and although the class was taught in a lecture style format, I could draw a picture and use that as a starting point for learning. I was learning biology because it was one of the subjects I chose to pursue in high school.

Learning experience from university

I had Art History as a subject and attended formal lectures where the professor would speak from a podium. History by it’s nature is a story and so can be very easy to learn. Art history really helped me to understand the history of my country better. I went to elementary school during the Apartheid government’s rule in South Africa and therefore did not get an accurate or relevant view of South African history while I was at school.

Personal Learning Experiences

Learning experience from work

I worked for a company that created picture-based learning solutions in the past. A large scale picture was created of a work environment, which was populated with scenarios to describe the typical environment and challenges related to the learning objectives.

Activities were created around these pictures to ensure that certain outcomes were met. One of the main methods used was to create a discussion around a certain aspect of the work environment or scenarios.

Apart from the solutions we created, I also  had my own learning experiences at this company because I had to learn new software that was not widely used in South Africa at the time and because there weren't as many online tutorials at the time, I had to learn from my colleagues and through exploring on my own.
